Medical back corset - what is it and why is it needed?

What is a latex corset?

Women have long used corsets to create seductive forms. But they were uncomfortable to wear and use. It was impossible to put them on without outside help.

You can find corsets in lingerie stores, but they are made entirely of synthetics. How are they different from a latex product?

  • The waist reduction corset is made of latex material, which is a synthetic product, but only the top layer of the corset is made of it. The second layer, adjacent to the body, is made of natural cotton. Thanks to this structure, elastic and durable latex forms the waist. At the same time, it does not restrict movement and the woman feels comfortable. The cotton layer “breathes” and absorbs secretions from the sweat glands.
  • To give shape to the body in a regular corset, metal rods are used. They create discomfort because they can put pressure on the skin and internal organs. It is also called a “rigid corset”. The latex product uses 9 stiffening ribs. They are able to reduce women's body volume by forming a thin waist. They are located symmetrically relative to each other. Each rib is hidden in a layer of cotton, thanks to which they delicately act on the skin without digging into it.
  • Three rows of hooks are another advantage of a modern women's corset. They allow you to adjust the dimensions as needed.

What are the features of latex?

  • the material is elastic, which helps the product return to its original shape after stretching;
  • does not absorb moisture, creating a thermal effect;
  • able to maintain its appearance for a long time due to its resistance to external damage;
  • pleasant to the touch, which is important for wearing comfort.

What is a corset for?

  • Types of corsets
  • Purpose of corsets
  • Location on the spine
  • Rigidity

How to wear a corset?

Throughout history, people have been concerned about their health. After all, health is life. Today, one of the most common diseases are diseases of the back and spine. The causes of such disorders are a sedentary lifestyle, lack of physical activity, poor posture and excess weight. However, many spinal problems can be solved without resorting to complex procedures and lengthy treatment. And special orthopedic back corsets can help with this.

What is a corset for?

Initially, the corset was an item of women's clothing and was intended to create a beautiful silhouette. Today this product is produced for all age categories, has the function of a corrector and fixator and is prescribed in the following situations:

  • curvature of the spine;
  • pathologies of the spinal column;
  • osteochondrosis;
  • intervertebral hernia;
  • pinched nerves;
  • increased physical stress on the back;
  • post-traumatic and postoperative recovery;
  • playing sports.

Types of corsets

Products can be classified according to the following parameters:

  • material – textile, leather, composite, polymer, metal-polymer materials, with or without filling;
  • adjustment - corsets with the ability to adjust sizes to fit the figure (with belts, Velcro, elastic bands) or without it (made to individual measurements);
  • appointment;
  • location on the spine;
  • rigidity.

Purpose of corsets

Based on their functionality, medical corsets can be divided into three types.

Corsets-fixators. Their purpose is to support and secure the spine in the correct position. Such products with rigid inserts are used for injuries, spinal diseases, hernias, as well as for the prevention of postural disorders, especially in children.

Corrective. Worn to correct postural deviations (lordosis, kyphosis, scoliosis). They have a rigid shape and are made from individual casts of the patient’s back.

Support corsets. The purpose of such products is to maintain the correct position of the spine and protect against overload. Indispensable in sports, dancing, in conditions of heavy physical labor and as support for a weakened back.

Location on the spine

As you know, the spinal column has four sections: cervical, thoracic, lumbar, sacral. Each department has its own types of orthopedic products. Depending on the severity of the disease, such corsets can be soft or hard and have distinctive design features.

One of the types of corset is a lumbar bandage. This modification is mainly used by pregnant women to make walking easier and prevent lower back pain.

Corset rigidity

According to the degree of rigidity of the structure, we can distinguish soft, rigid and semi-rigid corsets.

For the treatment of diseases of the spinal column, the use of rigid corsets is prescribed. However, you should know that in order to avoid atrophy of the back muscles, you can wear such products for several hours a day and only after visiting a specialist.

Soft corsets have a preventive function. The design, made of elastic and dense non-stretchable materials, allows you to gently fix the spine and maintain it in a physiologically correct position.

The most commonly used corsets are those with a semi-rigid frame. They are versatile, comfortable and do not restrict movement, provide good back support and are therapeutic.

How to wear a corset?

All experts unanimously say: in order for the use of an orthopedic corset to have a positive effect, you should remember several important rules:

— the product should be put on in a supine position and best in the morning;

— the corset should be comfortable, not squeeze the body, but also not be too loose;

— the maximum time for using the corset is 6 hours, after which you should definitely take a break;

- Under no circumstances should the product be used for any damage to the skin.

— for reasons of hygiene, you should not wear a corset on a naked body, you must use thin underwear made from natural fabrics.

The use of medical corsets brings significant positive effects.
But before purchasing a remedy, you must undergo a full examination and consult with an orthopedic doctor. It is important to remember that spine treatment will be successful and effective if you use a corset in combination with other methods. What types of corsets are there?

The following types of products are distinguished by shape:

  • classical. Its height is 25 centimeters. It reliably fixes the stomach and shapes the waist. It is located under the chest and reaches the hips.
  • corset in the form of a T-shirt. Its advantage is that it does not move when moving and does not stick out under clothing. Reliably holds the muscles not only of the abdomen, but also of the back. The waist in such a T-shirt also stands out effectively. This model is more comfortable to wear.

The color range of products is different: from classic (black, white and flesh) to bright colors.

The size range is wide: the smallest is XS (about 60 cm), the largest is 6XL (106 cm). To select a product by size, you need to take correct measurements. The waist is measured as you exhale using a measuring tape, and it must be pressed tightly against the body. A corset purchased according to size should fit tightly to the body.

Maternity bandage

There are a huge number of maternity bands on the market today. For example, bandages can be in the form of panties or a belt.

Types of prenatal bandages:

  • A corset for pregnant women is a tightening belt.
  • The bandage belt is a wide elastic band that is secured under the abdomen with Velcro. The model fixes the uterus without creating pressure from above. Usually the doctor prescribes a bandage belt for severe back pain. If you wear the right model, your belly will look like it’s in a basket.
  • Bandage panties are made of very elastic material. This model supports areas under the abdomen and lower back. Bandage panties have fixed sizes, so as the abdomen increases, it may become necessary to replace them.
  • The universal maternity bandage can be worn before and after pregnancy. When worn during pregnancy, the narrow side of such a belt should be located on the stomach, and the wide side on the lower back. After childbirth, the belt should be worn in the reverse position.

What is a latex corset used for?

Thanks to modern material (latex), the product addresses several women's problems:

  • reduction of fat layer. Due to its ability to retain heat, the corset promotes increased sweating. During this process, fat in the abdomen and waist gradually decreases. Along with sweat, toxic substances are released and water is lost.
  • decreased appetite. With slight compression of the stomach area, the amount of food consumed is reduced. A woman will need smaller portions to feel full, which affects the caloric content of her diet. The size of the stomach decreases, and satiety occurs with a small amount of food.
  • reduction in waist size. This is influenced by the thermal effect, which stimulates increased blood circulation in the waist area. Smaller meals also play an important role. A latex corset for reducing the waist, according to reviews, can reduce the volume to several centimeters.
  • strengthening the back muscles. Correct posture is a consequence of strong muscles. Spending a long time at the computer, a sedentary lifestyle relaxes the back, and muscles lose their former elasticity. It becomes difficult for a woman to “hold her back correctly” all the time. The product securely fixes the back, stretching it. The muscles get used to being toned all the time, thereby training themselves. The result is graceful posture.
  • recovery after childbirth. Women face the problem of sagging belly. You can use postpartum bandages. But they have drawbacks - they are too rigid and tend to curl under clothing. Discomfort is guaranteed. An elastic latex corset helps to quickly tighten the stomach, shape the waist, and relieve pain in the back.
  • enhancing the effect of sports activities. A latex corset is also called a training corset. It has been established that using it during physical exercise can increase the effectiveness of exercise by a third.

Disadvantages of products, side effects

The disadvantages of corsets for weight loss are the consequences of wearing them for a long time:

  • prickly heat or skin irritation;
  • tissue hypoxia (cell oxygen saturation decreases due to prolonged compression of the skin);
  • reduction in lung volume (possible when using the product daily for 3 months or more);
  • discomfort and burning when using corsets with warming impregnation;
  • inflammation of the esophagus due to the long-term greenhouse effect;
  • heartburn due to increased acidity in the stomach as a result of pressure on the organ.

Due to possible complications, doctors recommend limiting wearing corsets to 2-3 hours a day. You should also arrange days “without tightening” so that the skin has time to saturate with oxygen and recover.

How does a training corset work?

The latex product is convenient to use during training. Its elasticity and resilience allows you to run, squat, do push-ups, and play outdoor games without hindrance. The special sports model is slightly softer than the corrective one. It is not recommended to use a new training corset for physical exercise. It should be worn a little so that it fits perfectly. How many? It's individual. Of course, it must be sized.

Increased sweat production due to the body warming up during exercise contributes to the loss of excess fluid, as well as the reduction of fat deposits on the sides, abdomen and waist.

It reliably supports your back during weight training. This prevents the risk of sports injuries.

Along with a balanced diet, using a training corset during physical activity will help you effectively lose extra pounds. A reduction in the size of a woman's waist is also guaranteed.

Precautionary measures

Precautions and recommendations for using corsets:

  • A corset for losing weight on the abdomen and sides should not be tightened too tightly. You need to adjust the lacing according to your breathing: with maximum inhalation it should not hurt. If the pressure is strong and for a long time, the lungs will stop working at full capacity. Their volume will decrease, due to which all tissues of the body will experience oxygen starvation. This can cause metabolic syndrome and inflammation of the esophageal mucosa.
  • Strong tightening can cause fractures of the lower ribs as a result of inaccurate rotation of the body or sharp tilt.
  • The constant pressure of the corset on the abdomen often leads to a redistribution of organs in the abdominal cavity, which causes severe diseases of the digestive and genitourinary systems to develop and disrupts the menstrual cycle.

  • Women with diseases of the circulatory system and genitourinary organs must undergo examination and obtain a doctor’s permission to use compression structures.
  • It is prohibited to use corsets during pregnancy, minors, and lactation (squeezing tissue can affect milk volume).
  • It is contraindicated to sleep in corsets, otherwise tissue hypoxia and problems with the gastrointestinal tract may develop.
  • Products made from airtight materials promote profuse sweating, which leads to dehydration.

How to wear a latex corset?

There are also rules about wearing a training latex corset.

  • It is recommended to initially wear the new product for no more than four hours a day.
  • Gradually, the wearing time must be increased. How long to use it? The time period can be increased to 9 hours. During addiction, you need to pay attention to your well-being.
  • When the corset begins to fit freely (because the waist and stomach will decrease), you can move on to the next row of hooks.

How to care for the product?

If you properly care for your corset, it will last much longer.

  • It is advisable to wash after each use, because the cotton layer actively absorbs sweat.
  • Washing is done by hand. It is recommended to use cool water. Hot water can disrupt the structure of latex, and the elasticity of the material will be lost. Any detergent can be used.
  • To dry, the product is placed on the dryer in a horizontal position.

Can I wear a corset under everyday clothes?

Yes, because it fits tightly around the body, so it will be almost invisible under dresses, skirts and trousers. The exception is clothing made from transparent fabric. An outfit that is very tight to the figure will also be inappropriate.

A sporty style of clothing will not be a hindrance to wearing the product. Shorts and a T-shirt are the perfect combination.

How long does it take to wear a corset to reduce a woman’s waist size? A noticeable result can already be seen in a couple of weeks. To help, you need to use training and a proper diet.

Tips for caring for corsets

Maintaining the appearance and performance properties of slimming products is not difficult:

  • After use, the corset must be dried and carefully hung so that the fabric does not become deformed.
  • Before washing, the belt must be soaked in water (35-40 °C) with a non-concentrated soap solution for 30 minutes.
  • Belts can only be washed by hand. In the machine, the stiffening ribs of the products may break, and the fabric will lose its stretching properties.
  • After washing, hang the corset evenly without squeezing the water out of it. To make the product dry faster, you can blot it with a paper or terry towel.

Items that cannot be washed by hand should be dry cleaned.
