Diet is not only about fruits and cereals. But also delicious hot dishes, nutritious, but not high in calories. Let’s see this with the recipe for dietary cabbage rolls.
Benefits and properties of the dish
The rich nutrient composition of cabbage rolls varies depending on the components included in their filling.
Cabbage is the main “supplier” of vitamin C. Its red variety additionally supplies the body with folic acid. The chemical composition of this vegetable also includes phosphorus and potassium, which are involved in the breakdown of fats. In addition, cabbage is rich in fiber, the digestion of which requires more calories than is contained in the product itself.
Carrots contain carotene, which supports the functioning of the cardiovascular system, and tomatoes contain lycopene and retinol, which protect cells from aging. Often used as a complementary or analogue ingredient, mushrooms are rich in sodium and magnesium.
Meat is a source of protein that affects the functioning of almost all organs and systems, especially muscle tissue. The combination of all components in this dish has a beneficial effect on the immune system, gastrointestinal tract functioning and fat burning processes.

Cook diet cabbage rolls with chicken on the lowest heat for about twenty minutes.
Is it possible to diet and lose weight?
The calorie content of cabbage rolls depends on the ingredients used in their preparation. The classic version contains approximately 160-180 kcal/100 g. At the same time, the dish is quite satisfying, which is also important.
When following a diet, fatty pork should be replaced with lower-calorie types of meat: chicken, rabbit or veal. In addition, the filling can be vegetable, mushroom, containing herbs, cottage cheese or “Hercules”.
Attention! It will help to reduce the calorie content and the method of preparing this dish. If you are on a diet, you should avoid additional frying of cabbage rolls and cook them by steaming or stewing. Sour cream for the sauce should also be selected based on its fat content.
The benefits of cabbage rolls
For 100 gr. classic cabbage rolls with minced meat and rice or lazy cabbage rolls account for 150-160 calories. Vegetables in the form of a filling without a meat component reduce the calorie content of the dish by 50-60 indicators.
The dish is high in protein, which is important for losing weight and maintaining muscle tissue during active sports. Cabbage is a source of healthy fiber, which, like a brush, cleanses the intestines from accumulations of toxins.
It naturally stimulates digestion, removing remaining fat and unprocessed carbohydrates.
Despite the fact that the dish contains rice, cabbage rolls contain the most fiber and protein, so you can eat them even in the evening without harming your figure.
Turkey and chicken breast, if replaced with fatty pork or beef, help normalize cholesterol and glucose levels, which has a positive effect on the heart and vascular walls.
Lazy cabbage rolls contain more cabbage than other heavier ingredients. It removes excess fluid without losing sodium and calcium cells, which are necessary for joints and bone tissue.
How to cook properly
Each housewife has her own recipe for cabbage rolls, so there are quite a lot of variations of this dish. And yet, there are general cooking principles that allow you to get a tasty and satisfying result.
Cabbage leaves are pre-processed: the veins are cut off and boiled in order to make them softer and reduce their cooking time.
To enrich the taste, you can mix several types of minced meat, and also add additional ingredients to the filling: mushrooms, herbs, sweet peppers.
In addition to classic white cabbage, chefs use Savoy and Beijing varieties, spinach, beet or grape leaves.
The classic version of the sauce is made from sour cream and tomato paste. However, nothing prevents you from replacing it with fresh tomatoes, and adding finely chopped sun-dried tomatoes to add a special aroma.
Many housewives prefer a simpler version of cabbage rolls, since they do not want to spend a long time with wrapping the rolls. Lazy diet cabbage rolls have a higher calorie content, but this can be reduced by using low-calorie turkey or chicken, as well as by changing the cooking method. Frying each component should be replaced by stewing.
Interesting! In order to soften the cabbage leaves, you can first freeze them. After defrosting, they will become much more elastic and easier to work with.
