What was my experience with this cleanse? There were contradictory and positive results, and there were also certain difficulties. And my motives were also contradictory. On the one hand, I wanted to try to restore order in my body using this famous cleansing technique according to Marva Ohanyan, on the other hand, even 7 days instead of the traditional 21 days seemed like an eternity to me!!!
Previously, I only did a dry fast for 36 hours. And she only did this three times in her life. Each subsequent time was easier for me. But it was very difficult for me to imagine 7 whole days without a piece of food. Well, okay, let’s try, I told myself, because my husband is in the same “harness” with me, he will certainly support me in difficult times, because he is an experienced “hungerer”.
I myself had not read anything in advance about Marva Vagarshakovna and her method. I trusted my husband with everything and followed his instructions completely.
I remember how the day before the cleansing according to Ohanyan began, my hunger intensified, and I wanted to sweep away everything that was there. Have time to cram as much as possible into your stomach, like a bear before hibernation. This, of course, was psychological imbalance. A little panic before the hunger strike. It would be better on the contrary, to eat less, for example, only fruits. Empty the intestines with enemas or magnesium sulfate, and do not fill it in reserve.
The first day
Difficult. Out of habit, I wanted to eat or lick something. When you take care of a child, you cut something for him, peel him, cook him, etc., the sight and smell of food that cannot be eaten causes painful experiences. There was no emotional mood at all; I wanted to quit the race at the very beginning and eat something. But my husband encouraged me, and the first day went well. But physically it was easy.
When we stirred store-bought honey in a mug, we didn’t feel the sweetness of the broth at all; the drink turned out to be quite sour. Then we bought honey from neighbors from beekeepers they knew, and this honey in the same proportions made the drink sweeter. This, of course, lifted the mood, since the feeling of sweetness gives a feeling of satiety and joy =)
It seemed to me much easier to fast in this way than to starve on water. The drink turns out to be nutritious and you drink it so often (12 cups a day), that apparently it’s not for nothing that many people call this method conditional fasting according to Marva Ohanyan, and not fasting!
We didn’t even manage to drink all the decoction allotted for the day: about 10 cups each. We tried to drink every hour, but sometimes we forgot, being busy with our work.
It is best to brew tea in a thermos, as any connoisseur of herbal teas will tell you. That’s what we did: the volume of our large thermos is 2.5 liters. We brewed it 3 times a day. It didn’t have time to brew as we would have liked. After half an hour, the infusion turned out to be not so aromatic and rich in taste, so we decided that today, in the evening, we would brew tea for tomorrow.
Second day
The broth turned out very good, dark. It brewed well overnight. And it kept the temperature perfectly, until 3 o’clock in the afternoon it was quite hot. My conditioned fasting continues and my physical condition in the morning was very light and cheerful, I had a lot of strength in my body. I just fly and flutter like a butterfly, I don’t get tired at all. I don't know where this came from, I do a lot more things and there is no need for rest. When you have energy and mood, the need for rest disappears.
Of course, there is some irritation: I feed my daughter, and I see this food, and out of habit, purely for the company, I want to eat. But there is no physical need to chew something. At the sight of food, irritation and discord arise. And so, if this factor did not exist, I think, on a psychological level, it would be easier for me.
Day three
Everything seemed to be going well, but around 2 p.m. my liver began to tingle, and it tingled in any position: lying down and sitting. And the further we went, the more frequent these “tingling sensations” became. Literally every 3-5 minutes she “stabbed”, and these sensations were both in her right side and in her left. Due to this, my mood has deteriorated, I want to lie down more, and although I have strength, the decline in mood gives me a kind of lethargic state.
In addition to the liver, the nerve between the shoulder blades became ill, this is an old story, I have had it since I was 23 years old. The massage therapists said it was a nerve clamp. And sometimes it hurts me regularly, and sometimes it stops bothering me for years. But here it made itself felt and very intensely began to give me a nagging pain in my back.
My husband went to get magnesium sulfate (the very cleansing that had to be done before the hunger strike) in order to alleviate my condition. Waiting for him to return, I went out into the clearing in front of the house. She picked a young dandelion leaf and chewed it, drawing out the slightly bitter juice and spitting out the pulp. After all, dandelion helps the liver. But I think it was a mistake.
Because you can’t chew anything while cleaning, because this process sends signals both to the brain and to the entire gastrointestinal tract. Like, now there will be food! Gastric juice begins to secrete, etc.
By 7 pm Zhenya returned, and I diluted 2 sachets of magnesium sulfate with 3 quarters of warm water in a glass. I also prepared a heating pad and brewed another thermos of tea from Ohanyan’s herbal collection.
After drinking the mixture, you had to lie down with your liver area on a heating pad, put your head flat on the bed (without pillows or arms!) So you had to lie there for an hour and drink herbal tea every 20 minutes, but do not get out of bed. With a belly full of fluid, this was difficult because I constantly wanted to go to the toilet. Plus, magnesium began to burst into my stomach, and apparently everything that had not been eliminated from my body by that day began to rise “to the exit.”
Day four
I ran to the toilet a couple of times at night, I’ve been running all day today too, the laxative I took in the evening of the previous day is taking its toll. My liver stopped hurting as soon as I lay down on the heating pad. By the way, the heating pad itself gave a pleasant feeling of relief, it became very cozy and comfortable. The liver pain is gone! Hooray! And the spinal nerve calmed down.
By the fourth day of fasting according to Ohanyan, I got used to the idea that there was no food, but the feeling of hunger still creeps in sometimes, as always, especially when seeing or touching food. I noticed that regularly from morning to 4 o’clock in the afternoon there is a lot of energy, then it subsides a little.
Day five
My hands became very smooth, the skin of my body itself became downright silky. Before this, my forehead and between my eyebrows were peeling, but now it has stopped. Naturally, I have lost weight, I will weigh myself only at the end of the experiment, but now I can judge the weight loss by the reflection in the mirror and how loosely my clothes began to fit on me. Yes, I’ve definitely lost weight and quite well!
By this day, I had passed the psychological barrier of refusing food and now I look at everything more simply. There is already anticipation that soon the fast will end, and it will be possible to finally chew the chavel that grows abundantly in front of our house, I love it so much!
I began to become “saturated” with the aromas of the products. While I’m peeling an apple for my child, I notice its aroma is much more intense than before. Before, I wouldn’t have even smelled it, but here: the smell just rushes into my nose, as if its smell could be eaten.
Magnesium sulfate helped me a lot: the pain in the liver went away completely, and the nerve that was bothering me between the shoulder blades also completely died down. Now I understand that the magnesium solution should have been drunk at the beginning of the fast, as recommended.
Day six
On this day, another turning point occurred: a feeling of heat, burning, and a certain aching sensation in the gastrointestinal tract appeared inside the body. It wasn't pain! But somehow it still bothered me. This was similar to my physical sensations at the end of the first day of the dry fast. As if something was burning inside... but the burning gradually decreased and went away.
Day seven
There is a lot of energy! When I read Galina Shatalova’s book, I was amazed how she and her patients crossed the desert with a completely light ration: water and dried fruits (in small quantities). I thought, how did they get enough?! And now I understand that this is an example of light nutrition. We need glucose and liquid, and the body gives a person a colossal amount of energy. There is no talk of fatigue at all, no matter what you do, it simply doesn’t exist.
It turns out that the body does not spend time and energy three times a day on digesting food, it gives this energy to a person to accomplish more important things. In general, I became interested in the idea of malnutrition! I really want to avoid following the old habit of stuffing my stomach until I feel full. I want to learn to chew more thoroughly. Eat smaller amounts of food and drink more fluids.
How to prepare a cleansing infusion
Prepare the infusion that Marva recommends drinking during fasting as follows:
- Mix medicinal herbs taken in equal quantities;
- Pour boiling water over the enamel pan (so that the boiling water you pour later does not transfer much heat to the metal);
- Put 4-5 tbsp in it. l. medicinal collection;
- Pour a liter of boiling water;
- Let sit for 1/3 hour;
- Strain and pour the drink into a thermos (it’s better not to drink it cold).

Important! Conditional fasting according to the Marva Ohanyan method should be carried out under the supervision of a physician. A sharp and prolonged refusal of food for an unprepared person can result in an exacerbation of chronic diseases.
Preparatory stage
No special preparation is required, since the technique does not imply complete abstinence from food. But you should start cleansing a day before abstaining from food. To do this the night before:
- Dissolve 1 g of Epsom salts per kilogram of body weight in 250 ml of warm water (for example, at 120 kg - 120 g, 70 kg - 70 g).
- Drink the solution and lie on your right side. Do not put a pillow under your head.
- Place a hot heating pad wrapped in a towel on the right side of your abdomen (where the liver is) for 1 hour. Instead of a heating pad, you can use a plastic bottle.
- Within an hour, drink 3 glasses of herbal infusion, to which lemon and honey are added.
- When 1 hour has passed, get up and start walking.
- Before bed, drink another 3 glasses of infusion.
Magnesium sulfate has a laxative effect.

7 day fasting plan
The day after cleansing the intestines with magnesium sulfate, fasting begins. The technique also includes cleansing enemas in the morning. Do them as follows:
- Pour a solution prepared by mixing 2 liters of warm water, sea salt (10-12 g) and table soda (5-6 g) into Esmarch's mug;
- Take a knee-elbow position;
- Treat the tip with lubricant and insert it into the anus;
- After all the liquid has entered the intestines, empty it;
- Repeat steps 1-4 2 more times.
After the cleansing enema, take a hot shower. The optimal duration of water procedures is 15-20 minutes.
With a 7-day fasting scheme, you need to cleanse your intestines daily at 6-7 am. And also drink 1 glass of healing infusion with honey and lemon juice every hour (a total of 3 liters should be consumed per day). This is where the variety of diet ends.
During fasting, a coating forms on the tongue. It must be removed with a damp brush and baking soda.
14 day fasting plan
During a 14-day fast according to Marva Ohanyan, a severe runny nose begins. Mucus with purulent contents flows from the nose. But this does not require abandoning the health of the body. You only need to clear your sinuses three times a day. Cyclamen juice is suitable for this, which can be prepared as follows:
- Rinse the cyclamen tuber.
- Grate it on a fine grater.
- Place the mixture in several layers of gauze.
- Squeeze out the juice.
- Collect the juice in a jar and put it in the refrigerator. There it can be stored for up to 10 days.
The procedure for cleansing the nose is unpleasant, but very important. After it, you will no longer suffer from colds, including ARVI and flu. And it needs to be done as follows:
- Dilute cyclamen juice with boiled, cooled water. For 1 part juice you will need 10 parts water.
- Lie on your back.
- Place 1 drop of solution into each nasal passage.
- Lie in this position for 10 minutes.
- Get up and drink 400-600 ml of infusion.
- Bend forward so that your head almost touches the floor, and stand there for 2 minutes.
- Get up and wash your face with hot water.
- It is advisable (but not necessary) to inhale with essential oils of fir, mint or eucalyptus.
The fasting pattern from days 8 to 14 changes slightly. Basic moments:
- Every morning - a cleansing enema;
- In the morning after cleansing the intestines, as well as at lunch and before going to bed, cleanse the nose with cyclamen juice;
- During the day (hourly) - drink 3 liters of infusion;
- If necessary, clean the tongue from plaque using soda.
Advice! If it is difficult for you to drink the same infusion for the second week, you can supplement your diet with juices (only citrus fruits for now). In this case, during the day you need to consume 3 liters of medicinal infusion and up to 1 liter of juice. But if it’s not too difficult, hold out this week without juice.

21 day fasting plan
The conditional fasting scheme from 15 to 21 days is not much different from the previous one. Required:
- Continue giving morning enemas;
- Clean your tongue;
- Drink the infusion hourly (daily dose – 3 l).
If there is no more discharge from the nose, then you can stop cleansing it. Otherwise it needs to be continued.
From day 15, Marva Ohanyan recommends starting to drink citrus fruit juices (if you have not already started drinking them last week). You can drink up to 5 glasses of grapefruit and tangerine juice per day.
42 day fasting regimen
When fasting according to a 42-day pattern, the same procedures are followed. But in addition to citrus fruit juice, you can include others in your diet. Both vegetable (beetroot, carrot, pumpkin) and fruit (apple, pear) juices are suitable for this. But they must be prepared immediately before use. Drinking store-bought drinks is not allowed: they will again clog the body.
Liver cleansing - the final stage of fasting
Conditional fasting should be completed by cleansing the liver according to Moritz. Typically this procedure requires 6 days of preparation. But fasting itself is already preparation. - 100 ml olive oil;
- 150 ml citrus juice.
Step-by-step cleaning instructions:
- Starting from day 3 (if you cleanse on the 8th day) or from day 35 (if you cleanse on the 43rd day), drink 1 liter of apple juice per day (6 days in total).
- On the 6th day, have breakfast with oatmeal porridge with added butter and sugar. The consumption of fruits and their juices is allowed.
- For lunch the same day, eat a bowl of rice cooked with steamed vegetables. After this you can't eat anything else.
- At 6 pm, dissolve the Epsom salts in 750 ml of water and divide the solution into 4 equal doses.
- Take your first dose.
- at 8 pm take the second dose.
- If the intestines have not cleared by half past nine, help him do this with an enema.
- After cleansing the intestines, mix citrus fruit juice with olive oil.
- At 10 pm, drink a mixture of oil and juice in one gulp.
- Lie on the bed with your back down so that your head is higher than your body, and do not move. When you have the urge to go to the toilet, you can stand up, but after that, take your previous position.
- At 6 am the next day, take the third portion of the solution.
- At 8 am - the fourth.
- At 10 am, take 200 ml of fruit juice.

Breaking out of fasting
Returning to your previous diet should be gradual in order to maintain the beneficial effects of abstinence. An approximate scheme for overcoming hunger:

Treatment regimens
The creator of the technique offers several schemes for carrying out comprehensive cleansing of the body. They are united by the use of infusions of medicinal herbs, the stages of preparation and the correct way out:
- For 7 days. This is the simplest cleansing format. It is advisable to start treatment in the evening. First, take magnesium sulfate and place a heating pad on your right side. Over the next hour, drink three glasses of herbal infusion. For a more pleasant taste, you can add a little honey and lemon juice. The drug, together with tea, acts as a laxative. We visit the toilet and drink three more glasses of healing infusion before bed. In the morning we do 2-3 enemas of 2 liters each. Further in the course we carry out one cleanse on each day of fasting. We also take magnesium sulfate once. During the waking period, we actively drink juices and herbal infusions. Total volume – 6 liters. During the fasting period, Marva Ogayan recommends making a schedule for taking decoctions of various medicinal herbs and keeping a diary. This makes it possible to assess changes in physical condition.
- For 14 days. The first week follows a 7-day method. The fasting person takes a laxative, drinks medicinal infusions and rinses the intestines. In the second week, the “diet” is replenished with natural freshly squeezed juices.
- For 21 days. The first two weeks are the same as those listed above, and in the third week vegetable smoothies without sweeteners are added to the menu. Other recommendations are similar to short-term methods. Taking laxatives and cleansing enemas according to the standard scheme are maintained throughout the conditional fasting from Marva Ogayan.

Cleaning Marv Ohanyan. 5 reasons why I will no longer fast using the Marva Ohanyan method
The process of cleansing the body by fasting, which I stoically endured, is coming to an end. Thank God, today is the last day of taking the herbal decoction, which I drank three liters daily for 7 days in a row.
I fasted for only 7 days and then I dreamed about food at night, and Marva Ohanyan developed a scenario for 2 weeks, 21 days and even 42 days! I wonder if anyone can withstand this?
Having tried Marva’s method on myself, I realized that I could no longer fast like that, although she calls for this cleansing to be done every 3 months for two years.
Reason one.
Marva Ohanyan believes that in this way the digestion process is suspended and the body begins to independently cleanse itself of waste and toxins. After reading the works of other specialists on this issue, I realized that this postulate is controversial.
As, indeed, so much in our medicine.
I began to be interested in various reviews and objections to Marva’s method after I had already started fasting. No, in order to thoroughly understand this issue, I rushed into what is called battle without properly studying all the circumstances.
Reason two.
Thanks to my doctor who selected herbs for me. Not all of the recommended herbs worked for me; some of them not only didn’t work, but would have caused harm.
Reason three.
She also saved me from taking honey, although Marva recommends drinking a herbal decoction with honey. How much honey should you eat? If you calculate that you need to drink 12-15 glasses of broth per day, that means 12-15 teaspoons of honey. Although it is recommended to eat one tablespoon per day.
Poor pancreas! After all, she can be planted in this way, then treated for the rest of her life.
Reason four.
Any fasting is stress for the body. Why should I put him under such stress? Cleansing the body can be done in a more gentle way.
Reason five.
It turns out that for people my age it is not only beneficial, but sometimes even harmful, to fast in this way. It’s when you’re young and healthy that you can subject yourself to such tests, but when you’re already 60-something, albeit a small one, you shouldn’t.
It’s good that I don’t have any chronic diseases, otherwise they say that they get worse during fasting.
There is still one positive aspect to this fasting.
I lost 5.4 kg. But I don’t delude myself too much, because as soon as I start eating normal food again, I’ll probably start to gain weight. Now, of course, I will watch my food more diligently, but life will tell.
