How to cook rice on the stove
As a rule, the rice is first brought to a boil in an uncovered pan, and then the heat is reduced and the container is covered. During the initial boil, it's best to quickly stir the grains a few times to ensure even cooking and to avoid sticking to the bottom. So what should be the correct order from start to finish?
- Bring the water and rice to a boil over high heat.
- Stir the grains with a wooden spoon or Asian chopsticks to lift any grains that have sunk to the top.
- Reduce heat to low - the water should simmer gently. Cook the rice, stir it gently for a few minutes, then cover with a lid and wait until most of the water has been absorbed. Remember how much rice expands when cooked. The surface of the finished product should look glossy and dry. When you pierce the top layer with a fork, a small layer of water should be visible below.
- Reduce the heat to low, cover again and heat on the stove for another 10 minutes.
- Turn off the heat and let the rice simmer in the covered pan for 10 minutes to firm it up and finish cooking.
- Remove the lid, stir the finished product with chopsticks or a fork, then cover again and leave for another 5 minutes before serving. The rice will remain warm for another 30 minutes. Before you start portioning, stir the cooked cereal again.
Rice porridge with milk - feel like a child
Rice porridge with milk (classic recipe) is one of the popular dishes, the preparation of which does not take much time, but you need to carefully monitor the process. It can be made liquid, viscous or thick. To create a delicious milk porridge for children, you can add raisins, pumpkin or millet to the dish.
Liquid or thick?
The consistency of rice porridge when cooked with milk is determined by the proportions of cereal and liquid:
- Viscous porridge is prepared from 1 part cereal and 3 parts liquid. In this case, it is advisable to dilute the milk in half with hot water.
- A very thick porridge is obtained in a 1:2 ratio of cereal and liquid. But first, it is advisable to boil the rice in water until half cooked, then drain the water and replace it with boiling milk. If you don't do this, the rice will simply burn.
- Liquid rice porridge with milk is cooked with a ratio of cereal to liquid of 1:4.
