    Most often, when discussing the effectiveness of a decoction of bay leaves for diabetes, traditional healers refer to the presence of phytosterols in it, which allegedly have hypoglycemic properties. In fact, this is not so. The only proven benefit of phytosterols is their ability to reduce the absorption of cholesterol by the intestinal walls.
