How it all began
The diet is often carried out with maple syrup and cayenne pepper: these products saturate the body with essential vitamins and minerals. The syrup contains more than 50 useful elements: it includes acid hydrate, B vitamins, minerals (potassium, zinc, calcium, phosphorus, iron), polyphenols.
Maple syrup:
- strengthens the immune system, prevents atherosclerosis,
- improves the functioning of the pancreas and cardiovascular system,
- contains antioxidants, fructose

Limitation! It contains a lot of glucose, so use with caution.
Doctors say that cayenne pepper (chili) stimulates metabolism and brain activity. After a fatty meal, capsaicin removes excess calories and dulls hunger, protects against colds and regulates digestion. The quick “Master Cleanse” diet of freshly squeezed lemon juice, cayenne pepper, maple syrup and water was invented back in 1941 by physician and nutritionist Stanley Burroughs. An American doctor treated patients with stomach ulcers in this way. According to his method, the patient was completely cured in 10 days. Subsequently, there were still cases when different patients felt better after using the lemonade diet. Burroughs wrote a book on cleansing to combat diseases of the skin and digestive system.
According to his theory, the diet removes toxins, regulates the acidity of the blood and gastric juice, cleanses the organs and removes swelling. Hot peppers are involved in metabolism, maple syrup delivers vitamins and microelements, primarily calcium and magnesium. Rinse and green tea speed up the removal of toxins. For the procedure, the doctor advised using only natural citrus fruits and dark syrup. Of course, in Russia, syrup is only imported (an expensive option).
In 2005, another naturopath, cleansing master Peter Glickman, interviewed about 130 fans of this diet, analyzed the research results and found out that this way you can also lose extra pounds. His author’s work “Cleansing with Lemons” tells in detail how in six months he lost 14 kg on vegetables and fruits, and then in two weeks on a lemon diet - another 12 kg. Soon this method of losing weight became popular in Hollywood; in 2006, its electronic program with a menu plan and description for the iPhone was purchased in 50 countries.

Proper nutrition while on a diet involves consuming:
- Low-fat fish and seafood prepared by boiling or baking.
- Boiled or baked beef, rabbit, chicken or turkey.
- Brown rice, buckwheat, millet and oatmeal. Porridge is cooked with a minimum of salt.
- Vegetable and cereal soups in low-fat broth. Potatoes are limited in first courses.
