Dietary properties:
How many calories are in meatballs, what dietary properties they have, all this is of great interest to those who lead a healthy lifestyle and monitor their health and figure. So we will try to answer these questions in the next article.
Meatballs are a dish in the form of small balls made from minced meat or fish. In addition to minced meat, rice, bread, onions, eggs, spices, etc. are added to meatballs. In different national cuisines, meatballs can have different names. Cooking methods may also vary: they are fried, boiled, stewed, steamed and baked.
Meatballs are distinguished from cutlets not only by their shape, but also by two culinary characteristics:
Firstly, unlike cutlets, meatballs are breaded only in flour, and not in breadcrumbs. The best flour for meatballs, if they are fried, is rice, followed by wheat.
Secondly, meatballs, unlike cutlets and meatballs, are formed not only from minced meat and fish, but also from foreign additives to them: cereals (most often boiled rice) or vegetables - small pieces of tomatoes, dried fruits, mashed potatoes, which create both external and taste differences, and also have purely culinary consequences: meatballs, due to the greater looseness of their minced meat, become ready faster.

Calorie content and nutritional value of different types of minced meat
The most useful is minced chicken, rabbit and turkey. This product is suitable for dietary or baby food.
When losing weight, it is recommended to make minced chicken or turkey breast. In this case, dishes are baked or steamed.
Beef and pork products are fattier, contain a significant amount of cholesterol, and are therefore less healthy. If you are trying to lose weight, eating foods made from it is not advisable. Let's consider the nutritional value of each type of product separately.

Good minced beef comes from the loin and should contain 80% lean meat and 20% fat.
Indicators per 100 g of raw beef product:
- Calorie content - 254 kcal.
- Proteins - 17.2 g.
- Fats - 20 g.
- Carbohydrates - 0 g.

- gray shade;
- with a sour odor or its complete absence;
- liquid consistency.
Often, in order to save money, skin and fat are added to the mass. This product is not suitable for dietary nutrition.
Pork
The product is characterized by increased fat content and calorie content. To reduce the energy value, it is mixed with other types of meat.
Indicators per 100 g of product:
- Calorie content - 263 kcal.
- Proteins - 17 g.
- Fats - 21 g.
- Carbohydrates - 0 g.
The product is rich in vitamins B, PP, minerals (calcium, magnesium, sulfur, potassium, phosphorus, iron, and so on).
Homemade (pork + beef)
The product is obtained by combining pork and lean beef product (in equal parts). Depending on the ratio of parts, the calorie content of pork and beef mass may differ.

Minced meat dishes are very diverse: you can prepare both dietary and high-calorie culinary products from it. If you decide to start counting your calorie intake, it is better to avoid eating processed foods. In any case, a homemade product has less calories than a purchased finished product.
Good luck with your culinary experiments and stay healthy!
Among the variety of recipes for cutlets or similar dishes, you can always find a cooking option not only from meat. Common dishes made from vegetables and cereals, poultry meat - chicken meatballs, fish balls, etc. The versatility of such a dish lies in the method of preparation and cooking, and the composition of the minced meat can be changed at your discretion, and within a very wide range.
Even when I was little, meatballs were a desirable dish for lunch or dinner. At home, pork meatballs were often prepared by frying the meatballs and then simmering them in a thick tomato sauce. I don't know why, but they were always served with mashed potatoes. In those distant times, chicken meatballs were not in fashion, since chicken meat was quite scarce, and it was simply impossible to buy “blue” chicken to make meatballs or minced chicken cutlets from it. Often in cookbooks there are recipes with a simple name - “meat balls”. Most likely these are translation difficulties. The English word meatball, literally - meat balls, are meatballs. But this is not important, the important thing is that the meatballs are prepared in the form of small (or large) balls, using a fairly similar technology. Usually, the subtleties of a recipe are determined by the peculiarities of the cuisine of a particular region, traditions, or simply the mood of the cook.
The Swedish national dish is köttbullar, Swedish meatballs. Quite complex in composition, in addition to minced meat, they may include onions and rice, breadcrumbs, and eggs. They are not necessarily fried or stewed; you can often find baked or steamed meatballs. This applies to almost all similar dishes - be it Turkish kuftes, beef meat balls or regular chicken meatballs.
Chicken meatballs or meatballs are often popular in countries where there are bans on certain types of meat, or the meat is quite expensive. In Indonesia, bakso bakar meatballs are made from beef or poultry. Japanese chicken meatballs tsukune - stuffed and roasted on a spit.
Homemade chicken meatballs are a simple and quick dish. In the simplest version, it is simple minced chicken with spices and some kind of binder. Meat balls should be fried and simmered in your favorite sauce. More complex and tasty options include fillings from cereals or vegetables, a variety of spices, and often finely chopped herbs. Preparing such dishes does not take much time, and chicken meatballs can be prepared for breakfast by adjusting the composition of the minced meat, excluding too aromatic components.
