Nutrition by blood type: table of permitted and prohibited foods, menu

In this article we will tell you:

  1. The principle of the blood type diet, the scientific basis
  2. Pros and cons of nutrition based on blood type
  3. Nutrition according to blood group I (type O) (food table, menu)
  4. Nutrition according to blood group II (type A) (food table, menu)
  5. Nutrition according to blood group III (type B) (food table, menu)
  6. Nutrition according to blood group IV (type AB) (food table, menu)
  7. Is it possible to lose weight on a blood type diet?

The blood type diet has been popular for several decades. Proponents of this diet suggest that your blood type determines which foods are best for your health.

Following a suitable diet will guarantee not only weight loss, but also overall health, and recommendations range from strict vegetarianism for blood type 2 to a meat-based paleo diet for blood group 1. But what are the details of the blood type diet and is it based on any solid evidence?

The principle of the blood type diet, the scientific basis

The diet was popularized by naturopathic physician Peter D'Adamo in 1996. His book "4 Blood Types - 4 Lifestyles" became a New York Times bestseller, sold millions of copies and is still extremely popular.

The author believed that during the process of evolution, the composition of human blood changed with changes in the type of food. The diet and type of metabolism were formed under the prevailing type of social labor. These postulates formed the basis of the blood group diet.

Depending on the type of activity, certain foods predominated in the diet of ancient people: meat, plant foods, dairy products. Nutritional dominance caused the formation of different blood groups.

According to the authors, to maintain health, a person must eat foods that suit him. The rest need to be excluded or their presence minimized. Otherwise, metabolic processes fail and obesity develops.

There is logic in building such a health system. Long-term practice of its use notes evidence of improved functionality of internal organs and loss of excess weight.

People with the same blood type share common characteristics

:

  • biorhythms;
  • food preferences;
  • level of stress resistance;
  • tendency to the same diseases.

During the analysis of people's nutrition by blood type, 3 categories of products were identified:

  1. Harmful

    .They break down and release toxic substances - they have a negative effect on the body.

  2. Neutral

    .Do not change the intensity of metabolic processes, but do not bring benefits.

  3. Useful

    .They act only positively: they normalize metabolic processes and provide energy.

As such, the blood type diet divides all people into four types - “hunters” with blood type O(I), “farmers” with blood type A(II), “nomads” with type B(III) and mixed type with type AB(IV).

The basic recommendations are quite universal and suitable for any person, healthy eating tips.

One of the central theories of the blood type diet involves proteins called lectins.

Lectins

are a diverse family of proteins that can bind sugar molecules. These substances are considered antinutrients and can have negative effects on the intestinal lining.

According to the blood type diet theory, the diet contains many lectins specifically targeted to different blood types. It is claimed that consuming the wrong types of lectins for your blood type can lead to agglutination (clumping together) of red blood cells.

In fact, there is evidence that a small percentage of lectins in raw legumes may have blood type-specific agglutinating activity.

For example, raw lima beans may only interact with red blood cells in people with blood type A. However, most agglutinating lectins react with all ABO blood types.

In other words, lectins in the diet are independent of blood type, with the exception of a few varieties of raw legumes.

This may not be the case because most legumes are soaked and/or cooked before consumption, which destroys harmful lectins.

What do the studies say?

Blood group research has advanced rapidly in the last few years and decades.

There is now good evidence that people with certain blood types may have a higher or lower risk of certain diseases.

For example, people with blood type O have a lower risk of heart disease but a higher risk of stomach ulcers.

However, there are no studies showing that this has anything to do with diet.

In a large observational study of 1,455 young people, eating a Type A diet (high in fruits and vegetables) was associated with better health outcomes. But this effect was seen in everyone who ate a type A diet, not just people with type A blood.

One of the studies that found a link between blood types and food allergies actually contradicted the blood type diet recommendations.

As part of the analysis of all available scientific works (about one and a half thousand studies) on the relationship between blood type and health, only 16 studies partially confirmed that following a blood type diet can have any effect on the body. The remaining hundreds of studies have found no connection between health, nutrition and blood type.

It is also important that at the moment there is not a single scientific study proving the direct effect of following a blood type diet with real weight loss or improved health. It’s interesting, but even the author himself speaks very carefully about the effect of his proposed diet on losing weight and burning fat, mentioning modest figures of 3-4 kg.

Thus, modern research suggests that despite the presence of a certain logic in the theoretical basis of the blood group diet, it is impossible to give an unambiguous and universal recommendation for eating food solely based on a single metabolic characteristic.

In fact, such a recommendation simply will not take into account the enzymatic and endocrine activity of a particular person.

The author of the diet, Peter D'Adamo, claims that his theory is based on centuries-old observations of the Japanese linking temperament and a certain blood type.

There are no references to sources of information or any specific studies in his books, just as nothing is said about the basis on which the author divides specific products into useful and harmful.

It should also be noted that Peter D'Adamo is not a practicing doctor and does not hold any scientific degrees. In simple words, the theory of the connection between diet and blood type is solely his personal opinion, based on his own comparison of facts, but not on any scientific data.

So, even if you follow one of these diets and your health improves, it doesn't necessarily mean it has anything to do with your blood type.

Maybe the reason for the health benefits is simply that you're eating healthier foods than before. After all, all 4 diet types are based on real, healthy food and are a huge step up from the standard Western diet of processed junk food.

Good “plumb lines” and unflattering reviews from doctors

Reviews about the blood type diet are contradictory. Someone is happy and boasts about the results: in six months it’s possible to say goodbye to 30 kg. Others who are losing weight say that it is difficult to exclude familiar and favorite foods from their diet.

Nutritionists generally call this method of weight correction a pseudo-diet. And they claim: the method has no scientific basis. If you lose weight, it is not due to the “genetics-food” connection and your blood type is not important here.

Doctors advise paying attention to the menu: it is dietary in itself for each of the groups. There are similarities to protein and vegetable weight loss systems. But numerous possible medical indications and contraindications for such a diet are not taken into account. All people are conventionally divided into four parts, but there are many associated factors.

The main disadvantage is that the diet does not take into account your age, gender, hormonal levels, or chronic illnesses. According to this nutritional plan, coffee is prohibited for blood group O. What if a person is hypotensive and collapses without this drink? On the contrary, salty and fish menus can cause harm to hypertensive patients. For those losing weight with high cholesterol, egg and meat tables are dangerous. But according to the diet, this food should be emphasized in the third group...

Keep in mind that the blood type diet may not be as safe and healthy as the author claims it to be. When removing any food from your usual table, be sure to consult with your doctor-supervisor.

Pros and cons of nutrition based on blood type

Dietary principles of nutrition according to blood groups are suitable for all people who strive to lead a healthy lifestyle and have no contraindications for health reasons. The regimen is designed for a long period (2-6 months) and has a lasting effect. The diet is balanced, it contains all nutrients in optimal proportions.

Main advantages

:

  • balance;
  • softness;
  • a large selection of healthy products, many neutral ones;
  • Infrequent consumption of prohibited foods is acceptable.

Disadvantages of the weight loss system by blood type

:

  • there is no guarantee of excess weight loss;
  • you need to take into account the state of the digestive system, control cholesterol levels;
  • it is necessary to change taste preferences;
  • high risk of failure due to prolonged dietary restriction;
  • The nutritional system is based on a hypothesis and has no scientific basis.

A significant disadvantage of the diet is a large list of contraindications

:

  • chronic stomach diseases;
  • pregnancy and breastfeeding;
  • pathology of the heart or blood vessels;
  • blood diseases, diabetes, weak immunity;
  • exacerbation of infectious or viral diseases.

Numerous studies in the field of nutrition prove that the Rh factor has no effect on the digestibility of food. This means that the choice of products, menu and nutritional recommendations will be the same for the first positive and first negative blood groups.

In the book “Nutrition by Blood Type,” Peter D'Adamo writes that neither the Rh factor, nor gender, nor age matter when compiling a diet. However, his next bestseller, entitled “4 Blood Types - 4 Paths to Health,” contains separate diet menus for 3 positive and 3 negative blood types. But they differ slightly.

Advantages and disadvantages of the diet

The main disadvantage of this diet is that it is not suitable for rapid weight loss. Those who want to lose weight in a month or three are better off choosing another diet (for example, the Kremlin diet). This system is designed for long-term (preferably lifelong) use and brings health improvement to the body, strengthening the immune system, normalizing digestion, and as a result, weight loss.

Another argument of critics of this approach to nutrition is the lack of serious scientific research. Nevertheless, the diet has a sufficient number of fans around the world, and the number of positive reviews about it is growing.

Discussion of diet in the program Malakhov+

Nutrition according to blood group I (type O)

Type O (blood type 1) is called “hunter”.

In the process of evolutionary development of mankind, they appeared first. The leading activity was hunting; meat predominated in the diet. Physiological characteristics of the body

with blood group I:

  • more powerful immunity;
  • significant activity of the digestive system;
  • low metabolic rate.

“Hunters” tolerate experiments with nutrition extremely poorly. Losing weight by blood type will be successful if you increase the percentage of protein foods and minimize the consumption of carbohydrate foods. Daily calorie content is 1500–1800 kcal. With blood type I, maximum efforts are often required to “accelerate” metabolism.

“Hunters” with the first blood group are classified as athletic mesomorphs and are endowed with increased stress resistance and strong immunity.

Features of the diet for weight loss

First of all, it is worth mentioning that, according to D'Adamo, the diets he proposed are optimal in terms of physiological stress for owners of different blood groups.

That is, if you carefully follow them and do not ignore playing sports or just physical activity (even if it’s just work), then a person’s weight will always be normal.

If for some reason you are obese (most often this is a consequence of hormonal imbalance or pancreatic dysfunction), then you should adhere to the following rules for effective weight loss and maintaining slimness:

  1. Minimize the consumption of vegetable oil. Accordingly, to lose weight, you should give preference to stewed and baked dishes.
  2. Avoid fatty meats. In particular, this applies to domestic beef, pork, and duck.
  3. Avoid alcohol. The main harm from taking ethyl alcohol is the suppression of enzyme production and disruption of the pancreas.
  4. Follow a gluten-free diet. Grains that contain large amounts of gluten always contain large amounts of complex carbohydrates. And if too much sugar accumulates in the body, it is “transformed” into simple fatty acids and deposited in subcutaneous fat.
  5. Minimize the consumption of concentrated juices, coffee, black tea, desserts. All of them “interfere” with the brain’s normal control of the digestive process.

And these rules are universal for owners of any blood type.

It is worth considering that obesity is often a consequence of the fact that for some reason fats are not absorbed or the body practically does not produce insulin. In these cases, any diet is contraindicated; consultation with an endocrinologist is necessary. And the diet proposed by d'Adamo is suitable only for those who do not have chronic diseases of the digestive system.

Nutrition according to blood group II (type A)

Type A (second blood group) is called agrarian or “farmer”. They are described as somewhat hysterical people who are able to get rid of excessive stress solely through the transition to vegetarianism and a complete refusal of meat.

Nutrition for blood group 2 is divided into two types: for 2 negative and 2 positive. Each of them has its own rules and nuances of application.

The second negative blood group has its own characteristics. Its owners are characterized by the presence

:

  • high production of the hormone cortisol during anxiety;
  • thick blood that provokes the formation of blood clots;
  • fat deposits.

This situation arose when grain became the main food instead of meat. The body had to rebuild, change the digestive system. At the same time, the absorption of animal proteins - dairy products, meat - has worsened.

The menu for every day should include

the following components:

  • fresh, thoroughly washed vegetables;
  • porridge (but not with milk!);
  • legumes;
  • freshly squeezed vegetable and fruit juices (preference is given to juice from celery, apples and carrots);
  • Dinner can be varied with a glass of quality red wine.

Reviews

Vladlena, 25 years old

I have the first positive blood group. I used to eat everything and didn’t understand why I was overweight. But recently I came across this wonderful table, from which I realized that I was consuming too much junk food. I adjusted the menu according to the table and the result was not long in coming. I got better and lost weight.

Arina, 32 years old

I have the second blood group and the Rh factor is negative. All my life I have been trying to eat according to the D'Adamo system. I feel good, I have never experienced problems with excess weight.

Annushka, 22 years old

When physical training did not bring any results either in terms of losing weight or improving well-being, I decided to try a blood type diet. It took several months to get used to the new diet. It was difficult at first, but now I feel light throughout my body. And the extra centimeters at the waist melt away on their own.

Irina, 29 years old

Some time ago I was on the Actor’s Diet, and was even able to lose 5 kg on it. And then I decided to try eating according to my blood type. To be honest, initially this system was not clear to me, but over time I figured it out. I couldn’t lose weight using this method, but I felt better.

Alina, 36 years old

I recently decided to completely change my diet. I have the second blood group and are Rh positive. I began to follow the D'Adamo system, and I liked the result. Now I got my friend hooked on this method, although she had a second negative test, but we didn’t notice any differences in nutrition.

Bozhena, 28 years old

For 7 years now, the whole family has been eating according to the blood group method. My husband’s swelling and excess weight went away, and I stopped having health problems. Parents' test scores have improved.

Vladlena, 31 years old

Several years ago I became seriously ill. Doctors warned that if I don’t take my health seriously, the end could be sad. I was very scared, so I dramatically changed my diet and started eating foods according to the D'Adamo system. Maybe this is what is causing my dramatic recovery, maybe not, but now I only eat approved foods.

Ingeborga, 42 years old

I love trying new things, especially if this “new” has a positive effect on my body. My mother recently told me about nutrition based on blood type, she said that this is know-how that will get rid of all my ailments and return a second youth. I believed her and have been following this nutritional method for 2 months now. To be honest, I’m very pleased with it!

Nutrition according to blood group III (type B)

Type B (third blood group) is called a “nomad”. These people can eat plants and most meats (except chicken and pork), and can also eat dairy products. However, they should avoid wheat, corn, lentils, tomatoes and some other foods.

Otherwise, nutrition for the third blood group is recommended according to the principle of a carbohydrate-free diet.

Menu for blood group 3

You can often hear questions about how the list of products differs for people with a third negative blood group. In fact, there are no special differences here.

All the same products are allowed, but the same products are prohibited. But here it is worth paying more attention to nutrition. Rh negative makes the body more sensitive to nutrition. It is necessary to completely eliminate prohibited foods from the diet, and also be very careful about those allowed for limited consumption.

How do scientists feel about D'Adamo's research?

The basics of D'Adamo's theory are all very clear. But how do scientists feel about his research? In most cases - skeptical.

After all, even in biology lessons at school, students are taught that different blood groups are a consequence of different protein sets in the walls of red blood cells and this depends solely on the set of DNA agents, and not on nutrition.

And in support of their words, scientists point out that the diet of modern man is very different from what was basic even a couple of centuries ago . For example, today each person annually consumes about 20 kilograms of sugar, and in the mid-19th century this figure was 10 times lower. But at the same time, because of this, a new, 5th blood group did not appear. Moreover, this did not even cause any changes in the structure of proteins in the walls of red blood cells.

Scientists also believe that if we fully followed D’Adamo’s theory, then a person’s blood type could change several times throughout his life, depending solely on his diet. But this does not happen, since all the amino acids that make up the membranes of blood cells are replaceable, that is, they are synthesized by the body from almost any other amino acids.

Be that as it may, there are more and more admirers of this type of dietary nutrition every year.

What is this connected with? With D'Adamo promoting healthy eating . He recommends avoiding gluten, alcohol and giving preference to lean meats, vegetables and fruits. In principle, any qualified nutritionist will confirm that this is the optimal diet for any person , regardless of his gender, age, or the presence of chronic diseases of the digestive tract.

Scientists also note that the diet, even in the ancient world, depended significantly on the geographical location of the people or tribe. For example, in Africa, hunting was rarely used at all - people there were predominantly engaged in agriculture. But at the same time, according to official statistics from the WHO (World Health Organization), among blacks there are most people with blood types 1 and 4 (higher than the Caucasians). And this is a discrepancy according to D'Adamo's theory.

And one should not ignore the fact that a person is a mammal and during the first years of life the basis of his diet is mother's milk . It has a lot in common with any type of milk, although it differs in composition. That is why fermented milk products should be included in absolutely everyone’s diet.

An exception is when the body does not produce enzymes that help digest lactose and its derivatives (in such cases, doctors may prescribe fermented preparations).

But nutritionists even have a negative attitude towards D’Adamo’s theory. They argue that such a diet will be the most “harmful” for those with blood type 2, who almost completely have to give up animal proteins. Meat contains a huge list of essential amino acids, without which muscle tissue and skeleton simply cannot grow normally.

Nutritionists also say that today almost no one eats game at all. Even hunters today prefer to hunt in various kinds of specially equipped reserves, where animals are bred artificially. They say that even with a strong desire, it simply will not be possible to completely follow the proposed diet - the diet of a modern person has been changed so much that it cannot correspond to the “old” traditions.

It’s also worth noting that D’Adamo’s book doesn’t talk about many products. For example, honey, which is one of the “safest” sources of iron. All nutritionists recommend using it, but D'Adamo simply avoided this topic.

In summary, scientists are skeptical about the theory that a person’s diet should be changed depending on his blood type. But at the same time they indicate that following the diets recommended by him will not bring any harm to health. They don’t recommend completely giving up beans, tomatoes, and nuts - they contain essential fatty acids. And their presence in the diet is especially important in children under adolescence.

Nutrition according to blood group IV (type AB)

Type AB (blood group four) is mixed - that is, it has the characteristics of several other groups.

Described as a mixture of types A and B. Foods to be eaten include seafood, tofu, dairy products, beans and grains. They should avoid beans, corn, beef and chicken.

The list of foods that can be consumed will allow you to find the best option for each person.

Recommended foods for positive blood group 4

Food group Products
Meat Turkey, rabbit, lamb in small portions
Seafood Cod, sea bass, hake, mackerel, pike, sardine, tuna
Dairy products Include low-fat sour cream, cottage cheese, yogurt, kefir in your diet, but avoid pure cow's milk. You can drink goat
Oils, fats Olive, ghee
Seeds, nuts Peanuts, walnuts
Legumes Beans, soybeans, lentils
Cereals Millet, oatmeal, rice
Bread Sprouted wheat bread, 100% rye bread
Vegetables Eggplant, beets, broccoli, cauliflower, celery, cucumber, garlic, mustard greens, parsley, parsnips, potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots

Seasonings Curry, garlic, horseradish, miso, parsley. Avoid pickles and ketchup that contain vinegar.
Beverages Alternate coffee and green tea for better stomach acid balance. A glass of red wine protects against heart disease

People whose blood belongs to group 4 should eat less and more often. This way they will counteract digestive problems caused by insufficient stomach acid and peptic enzymes.

Dr. D'Adamo suggests that type ABs pay attention to the combination of foods in their diet. For example, you will digest and absorb food more efficiently if you avoid starches and proteins in the same meal.

AB type women should avoid foods that thicken the blood. A study by Danish scientists found that group 4 is the most vulnerable to developing venous thromboembolism (blood clots in the veins), accounting for 20% of the risk. Experts studied data on 66,001 people who were observed for 33 years from 1977 to 2010 and came to the conclusion that blood type AB should be included in genetic screening for thrombophilia.

The missing nutrients can be obtained from neutral products - those that complement and diversify the menu.

Menu for 4 blood groups

This diet combines the basics of vegetarianism, so meat must be limited. It is better to give preference to lean varieties of meat and poultry.

The diet should be light and balanced, but the main thing is that the body must receive a large amount of vitamins and microelements.

When preparing dishes, the emphasis should be placed not on their taste, but more on their usefulness.

Food should be beneficial, so the way it is prepared is also important. It is better to boil, bake, stew, and steam permitted food products in order to preserve their healing properties as much as possible.

Other recommendations are:

:

  1. Reduce the volume of daily portions, while being sure to control the flow of fluid into the body (water).
  2. The amount of fat in the daily diet should be minimized, while plant fiber and natural antioxidants along with vitamins should prevail in excess.
  3. Alcohol, coffee, and carbonated drinks are considered forbidden; it is recommended to quench thirst with herbal infusions or green tea.
  4. Limit salt, sugar is prohibited, it is also advisable to exclude butter, and the best option is olive oil.

You need to eat up to 5 times a day. In the morning, breakfast can be hearty and “energetic”, lunch can be healthy and nutritious, and dinner (not late in the evening) can be light, with a feeling of malnutrition in the stomach. For an afternoon snack - vegetables, fruits.

The main idea of the d'Adamo system

So, the main idea that James D'Adamo is trying to convey through his book is that blood types are a consequence of evolution. Like, initially all people on the planet had only the first blood group. The rest appeared as a result of a change in diet.

It is well known that the first people on earth ate exclusively vegetables and fruits. But later animal food was added to their diet (since hunters appeared).

And even later, people learned to cultivate the land, grow grain, and so on. And as soon as their diet underwent dramatic changes, this led to a change in the biochemical composition of the blood, including the appearance of new blood groups. All this happened over tens of thousands of years.

And the essence of the theory is that those with the same first blood group are more “adapted” to food of animal origin. Accordingly, it should form the basis of their diet. But people with the second blood group should include plant foods in their diet. Each group has its own “compatibility” with specific types of foods, and when eating non-recommended foods, intolerance may occur.

James D'Adamo's main idea is this:

  1. First group. Appeared as a consequence of hunting thoughts. The meat of wild animals contains a huge amount of proteins and fats, which is practically absent in vegetables and fruits. But it is worth considering the nuance - the “hunters” only consumed game.
  2. Second group. It was formed due to the emergence of tribes that ate exclusively plant foods. The basis of their diet was vegetables and fruits, and not only wild crops. It was these people who made the first discoveries in terms of land cultivation.
  3. Third group. It appeared as a consequence of the domestication of wild animals and the advent of agriculture. D'Adamo himself argued that carriers of this blood type descended from “nomads” who did not obtain food for themselves, but produced it themselves. The key “innovation” among such people is the inclusion of fermented milk products in the diet.
  4. Fourth group. According to d'Adamo's theory, it is a mixture of the 2nd and 3rd groups and appeared relatively recently - only 15 - 18 centuries ago. And the scientist has repeatedly called such people “universal” - their body copes well with game, and with the meat of domestic animals, and with agricultural products.

Is it possible to lose weight on a blood type diet?

In the world, about 40% of the population have type 1 blood. They need nutritional supplements with iodine, manganese, calcium, vitamins K and B.

If, in order to achieve a positive result - weight loss - a diet according to the first blood group is chosen, a number of actions are required

:

  • Include more seafood and seaweed (seaweed). They replenish iodine deficiency. This microelement is part of the thyroid hormones, and it has a direct effect on metabolism. Radish and radish activate the production of thyroid hormones.
  • Give preference to green vegetables. Cucumbers, spinach, broccoli, green onions strengthen the body.
  • Eliminate heavy foods from your diet that overload the digestive system (fried foods, smoked foods, processed foods, canned food, alcohol).
  • It is preferable to boil, stew, steam, or grill foods.
  • Practice dosed physical activity with high intensity (aerobics, swimming, skiing).
  • Proteins are the basis of the hunters’ diet. Products that speed up metabolism will help them lose weight. This is, for example, red meat and liver. Pork and goose are poorly digestible.

On Earth, almost 39% of people have blood type 2.

Thanks to the correct selection of products, toxins will be removed from the body, and the functioning of the intestines and stomach will be normalized. To get significant results, it is recommended

:

  • exercise moderately - walking, swimming, yoga;
  • eliminate emotional stress;
  • avoid overwork;
  • give up sweets and baked goods;
  • take chromium and selenium, vitamin E, B.

15% of the world's population have type 3 blood. During a diet, these people have the richest diet, but they are more likely to be overweight than others. They need to take additional magnesium and lecithin. Sports such as running and walking, swimming, exercise bike, tennis are suitable for them; yoga classes are also useful.

Representatives of the mixed group are only 6%. This type of person needs intense physical activity - running, cycling, swimming. Recommended food supplements include zinc, selenium, and B vitamins.

For people with the fourth blood group, in order to get rid of excess weight, it is recommended to reduce daily fat intake, and focus mainly on proteins and dietary fiber.

Bread made from wheat flour and sweets, as in all other diets, are considered prohibited foods and will not help a patient with positive blood type 4 lose weight.

The blood type diet can be followed throughout your life as it provides a balanced diet. But if the dietary regime is followed temporarily, you need to switch to a regular food system smoothly. You should maintain your diet menu for at least a week, adding only a small amount of prohibited foods to it.

Despite the safe list of products, the technique is only suitable for healthy people who do not need medical nutrition. If you have gastrointestinal diseases or other health problems, the diet can make you feel worse. To prevent this from happening, consult a specialist before using it.

Remember that nutrition based on blood type does not have an evidence-based scientific basis, confirmed by clinical studies.

Contraindications

We hasten to please you - there are practically no contraindications! Perhaps individual intolerance to certain foods. But they can always be replaced with others - the choice is quite wide. In many “hard” diets (you will be interested to read about them - Kefir diet, Buckwheat diet) the list of substitutes is much shorter.

In some diseases, eating certain foods (recommended for you) can be harmful, and the absence of other ("bad" for you) nutrients will not help you heal. For example, with hypertension or heart disease, the amount of meat should be limited even for people in group 1, where meat is the basis of the diet. On the contrary, in case of anemia or protein deficiency, meat cannot be excluded, even if dairy or plant foods are recommended to you.

In addition, a person’s condition changes with age. For example, osteoporosis develops, in which calcium is needed. Therefore, even “meat eaters” should not remove dairy dishes from the menu. Hence the conclusion - in case of illness or age-related changes, follow any diet - only after consulting a doctor! It is especially important for those with kidney disease, liver disease (in this case it is better to adhere to a special nutrition system), diabetes, and coronary artery disease.

There is also no data on the benefits of any diet for children or adolescents. To be fair, it should be noted that a set of well-known healthy dietary products is recommended for representatives of each group.

Bread and baked goods

In general, the situation is similar to cereals and grains. You should avoid products made from corn flour, and if you are overweight and want to keep in shape, limit your consumption of baked goods and wheat-based bread. Although let me remind you that it can still be used depending on your state of health and your sporting goals.

Spices, spices and seasonings

People with blood type 4 are not recommended to eat a lot of sodium, so be careful not to oversalt your food; the same applies to the choice of sauces. Avoid vinegar and all types of pepper, which negatively affect your stomach microflora.

Ideal products:Acceptable products:Harmful products:
Curry, parsley, horseradish, miso, garlic.Agar, basil, bergamot, vanilla, red and brown seaweed, cloves, mustard, wintergreen, cardamom, chervil, maple syrup, coriander, cinnamon, creamtartar, turmeric, bay leaf, marjoram, arrowroot, honey, molasses, nutmeg, mint, paprika, carob, rosemary, rice syrup, sugar (any), soy sauce, salt, tamarind, tamari, thyme, cumin, dill, savory, sage, saffron, chives, chocolate, tarragon, mayonnaise. Anise, vinegar of all types, dried peppercorns, ground pepper of all types, cayenne pepper, gelatin, capers, corn starch, corn syrup, tapioca, red pepper flakes, almond extract, barley malt, ketchup, pickles and marinades, Worcestershire sauce, relish.

Nuts and seeds

A good source of protein, but strictly in small quantities due to the harmful lectins contained in almost all nuts. The exception, perhaps, is a minority; a good solution would be to eat nuts in the form of a paste.

Ideal products:Acceptable products:Harmful products:
Peanuts, peanut butter, walnuts, chestnuts.Almonds and almond paste, American nuts, pine nuts, hickory, litchi nuts, macadamia, cashews, pistachios.Poppy seed, sesame and sunflower seeds, hazelnuts, pumpkin seeds, tahini.

Coffee helps increase stomach acidity, which will only benefit representatives of the fourth blood group, and also, as mentioned above, green tea is an excellent drink for you.

Ideal products:Acceptable products:Harmful products:
Green tea, coffee.Red and white wine, beer, seltzer and soda.Sweet sodas, distilled drinks, diet soda, black tea.

Grains and pasta

Despite the loyalty to wheat, eating pasta quite often will not bring any benefit; it is better to take rice as a basis, and diversify your diet with pasta a couple of times a week.

Ideal products:Acceptable products:Harmful products:
Flour: oatmeal, rye, rice, sprouted wheat. Rice: brown, polished, Canadian, basmati. Quinoa, pasta. Flour: spelled, graham, premium or first grade wheat flour, whole grain wheat, high protein, barley. Bulgur grains, couscous. Buckwheat, Jerusalem artichoke pasta, soba noodles, Hasidic porridge.

Ideal products:Acceptable products:Harmful products:
Olive oil.Peanut oil, flaxseed oil, cod liver oil, rapeseed oil.Corn oil, sesame oil, sunflower oil, cottonseed oil, safflower oil.

Meat and poultry

The inheritance from the second blood group makes itself felt; the low acidity of the stomach does not allow you to effectively digest meat, but it is not at all recommended to give it up. A good solution would be to eat meat products in small portions so as not to overload the gastrointestinal tract.

Ideal products:Acceptable products:Harmful products:
Rabbit, lamb, turkey, lamb.Pheasant, liver.Beef, veal, heart, bacon, buffalo, goose, duck, chicken, pork, game.

Is it worth sticking to this diet?

At the very least, it's worth a try. But don't forget about variety in food. A person should always eat a variety of foods whenever possible. And meat, and purely vegetables and fruits. Ideally, you should discuss this issue with a nutritionist.

But in any case, absolutely everyone (even vegetarians) should include in their diet:

  1. Fish and seafood . They have the highest content of essential fatty acids, potassium and iron, which are essential for the brain.
  2. Vegetables and fruits with non-digestible fiber. The simplest option is boiled beets, cucumbers, tomatoes, radishes.
  3. Complex carbohydrates. They are mainly found in cereals, oatmeal, wheat, and whole flour. Such carbohydrates can be stored in the body “in reserve” and used, for example, when it is necessary to quickly warm up. Fatty acids cannot be absorbed and transformed into energy as quickly as carbohydrates. Therefore, a sugar deficiency can even provoke an imbalance of digestion when a person is obese, but receives too little energy from food.

And another important nuance is maintaining the water-salt balance. But, unlike d'Adamo's theory, one should take into account the juices consumed, water, teas, and even first courses - they all contain water, which goes through the process of infiltration in the body and sodium and potassium compounds are extracted from it.

Fruits and berries

Eating unwanted fruits can disrupt the acid-base balance of the stomach. Therefore, a fruit such as, for example, an orange is clearly not suitable for you. Otherwise, you can eat many different fruits and berries that will have a beneficial effect on the body. By studying the foods that are not recommended for you and eliminating them, or at least reducing their consumption, you can perfectly balance your diet for the better and improve your well-being, and allergic reactions will bypass you.

Ideal products:Acceptable products:Harmful products:
Pineapples, grapes, cherries, grapefruit, fresh and dried figs, plums of all kinds, cranberries, kiwi, gooseberries, lemons, logan berries.Apricots, watermelons, boysenberries, lingonberries, blueberries, pears, blackberries, wild strawberries, strawberries, melons of all varieties, raisins, raspberries, currants, kumquats, limes, tangerines, nectarines, peach, papaya, dates, blueberries, prunes, apples, elderberries, Plentin.Oranges, bananas, pomegranates, guava, starburst, starfruit, coconut, mango, prickly pear, rhubarb, persimmon.

Fish and seafood

Seafood is definitely a good source and should be present in the diet of carriers of the fourth blood group. Like other blood types, most foods will be healthy, but there are some seafood that you may not want to eat that you should avoid if possible.

Ideal products:Acceptable products:Harmful products:
Salmon fish, cod, pollock, pufferfish, grouper, sea bass, angelfish, sturgeon, porgy, gar, pike, shad, mackerel, sardine, edible snail, hake, albacore tuna, redfish, trout, sailfish.Shark, croaker, yellow and silver perch, squid, carp. Shellfish: abalone, scallop, mussel. Lofolatilus, catfish, carp, smelt, bluefish, swordfish, morone, snapper, fresh herring, whitefish. Anchovy, beluga, sea pike, halibut. Shellfish: clams, oysters and others not listed as acceptable. Crab, shrimp, flounder, lobster, crayfish, turtle, eel, frog, seriola, sunfish, rock and striped bass, octopus, haddock, salted herring and smoked salmon.

Dairy and eggs

Eggs and dairy products are well digestible and have a beneficial effect on metabolism; this inheritance was inherited from representatives of the third blood group, which will certainly please lovers of dairy foods.

Ideal products:Acceptable products:Harmful products:
Eggs, kefir, yogurt, including with fruit, low-fat sour cream, homemade cheese, goat milk. Cheese: Mozzarella, Ricotta, Feta, goat. Cheese of all varieties not listed in the ideal and harmful categories, casein, skim milk (2% or lower), soy milk and cheese, whey.Cheese: processed, blue, American, brie, camembert, parmesan, provolone. Ice cream, butter, buttermilk, whole milk.

Legumes

Another controversial group of foods, like nuts for representatives of the fourth blood group, but you still need to consume it in small quantities and exactly those products that are indicated as ideal and acceptable.

Ideal products:Acceptable products:Harmful products:
Beans: red soybeans, red, navy. Spotted beans, green lentils. Beans: white, northern, shelled varieties. Green beans. Beans: copper, jicama, cannellini, tamarind, fodder. Green peas and pea pods, Red and domestic lentils. Adzuki beans, lima beans, regular vegetables. Black beans, fava beans, chickpeas, black peas.

Where to begin?

First of all, of course, you need to find out your blood type, if you have not already done so. Further, American nutritionists advise consulting with a doctor about switching to a “blood diet.”

Indeed, for some diseases, people are prescribed strict therapeutic diets, which the doctor prohibits from breaking. And even completely healthy people should not switch to a new diet in one fell swoop. It is better to gradually eliminate “harmful” foods and increase the share of especially healthy ones. Observe your body's reactions.

By eating according to your blood type, you won't have to count calories. If you eat the right foods that are healthy for your blood, your weight will decrease on its own. But you still need to watch the portion sizes. If you eat too much of even “your” food, you will gain weight no matter what foods “sink” into your stomach.

For each blood type, all D'Adamo product groups were divided into three categories: especially beneficial, neutral, and those that should be avoided.

"Inedible" lectins

Father and son D'Adamo say that there is no equally healthy diet for everyone. This is precisely what can explain the fact that the same diet helps someone get healthier and lose weight. It does not cause any positive changes in other people. And for others, it completely weakens the body and leads to a deterioration in well-being.

The answer to this phenomenon, scientists believe, lies in the characteristics of human blood. Blood type is the “genetic fingerprint” of each of us. The blood type given to each of us from birth determines the predisposition to diseases, the necessary diet, and the level of physical activity.

If throughout our lives we eat something that is not what our blood “requires,” the body begins to fight the food it consumes. The immune system is designed in such a way that in response to the invasion of any “stranger”:

  • virus,
  • microbe
  • bacteria,

it begins to produce its chemical defense - antibodies. Antibodies bind to uninvited guests and thus neutralize the “opponents”. So, a chemical reaction also occurs between blood and food.

It turns out that food contains special proteins - lectins, which have adhesive properties. If protein lectins are incompatible with the blood type, they “attack” the organs:

  • liver,
  • kidneys,
  • brain,
  • stomach.

And in this area the blood begins to fight with them. Blood cells stick together. And if food is beneficial for a given blood group, there is no such effect. All this is confirmed by scientific research.

To understand the principle of interaction between blood and food, it is enough to recall the example of donation. Everyone knows that the same blood type does not suit everyone. Blood from the first and second groups can be infused into the blood of the second group. The fourth group accepts blood from any person. And the first group is suitable only for its own first group. If this rule is violated, someone else’s blood will be accepted with hostility by the body. It will simply curl up.

All this, of course, does not mean that you need to be afraid of any food. First of all, you need to know that they are rich in lectins:

  • leguminous plants,
  • seafood,
  • vegetables,
  • cereals.

Seafood

It is very difficult to completely eliminate them from the diet.

The solution is this: avoid foods with lectins, which cause your cells to stick together. For example, the most common lectin, wheat gluten, binds to the lining of the small intestine, creating severe inflammation mainly in people with blood type O.

Cereals and grains

In general, cereals are beneficial for people with type AB and most of them are easily digestible. Even wheat is not perceived so critically by the body. However, for those who are trying to lose weight, it is still better to exclude it, since this product in itself is not very useful.

Ideal products:Acceptable products:Harmful products:
Oatmeal, flour and bran. Puffed rice, millet, spelled, rice bran. Granola, amaranth, sprouted wheat, wheat bran, wheat flour, soy flakes and granules, farina, familia, barley.Buckwheat, kamut, cornmeal and flakes, Hasidic porridge.
